This is getting to be a bad joke.
I promise you I will search for a form of taxation that we are NOT in the top 10 for.
According to the The Tax Foundation’s study on property taxes the state of Connecticut is #2 per capita. #1 is New Jersey and they are taking steps to reduce their property tax.
Here’s the run down according to RetirementLiving.com’s study.
Most states have a circuit breaker or homestead program to enable retirees to stay in their home inspite of rising property taxes. Unfortunately Connecticut’s circuit breaker program only kicks in if your Adjusted Gross income is LESS THAN $20,000 a year and the benefit is an awe inspiring $1,200. If your income is less than $20,000 most likely you are not in a house but rather government housing. I doubt anyone can take benefit from this program other then exempting a car. Compare all the states here.
The Tax Policy Center’s website has a great run down of all the state’s tax programs, read it and weep.
Regards pensions, Connecticut is exempt from taxing pensions if your Adjusted Gross is less than $60,000 if your are married. Massachusetts is totally exempt as is New Jersey and New York states.
This state has it’s hands in our pockets at every turn, yet they continue to talk about raising taxes at the Capital. It is never enough, they always want more and more. I don’t remember any talk about raising taxes during the past election cycle. Now that the senators are safely seated for another 6 years the daggers come out.
We need the power of recall, these people need to fear for their jobs, they need to fear our anger for gross mis-management our state, our home and threatening our livelyhoods and property.
This is a state that disrepects the people that they took an oath to serve, they can take our property our homes at a whim if a developer promises MORE TAX revenues, they tax us with utter disregard to our need to stay competitive in this global economy.
When will this end? Only when we throw them out of office. We have two years to organize. I suggest we target a few key big spenders and taxers and make them the focus of an electoral campaign to move them to a new career.
