Follow up on Childhood Obesity

It strikes me on how much our society equates celebrating life with food.

Today my daughter graduated from one martial arts belt to another, we celebrated with pizza. When the soccer season ended, we celebrated with pizza and brownies. When Halloween rolled around the ballet instructor celebrated with candy (she could use some). How weird we watch our kids do all this great stuff then we ruin it with food.

When the girl scout troops celebrated international culture they celebrated with food, which really means all the deserts from four corners of the world. Not dinner mind you but rather a sampling. Sample first then go home for dinner.

And of course Easter is coming we must celebrate the coming of Spring and the renewal of life with candy! Or a bunny or two. No matter how much you try to limit the stuff a well meaning relative pops in with a basket or two, a little here and a little there and it adds up. (Note to relatives: Plastic grass is banned at our house, you know the stuff you put in the Easter Basket)

There is food at every gas station, how weird is that? Welcome, fill up both tanks! Ugh I feel like a tank! All that “food” is highly processed, it has to be, it stays on the rack for weeks. Empty calories.

We need a paradigm shift. Our food is killing us.
