Can the Republican Party be saved, or should we care?

13 September 2007

Is it worth saving?

The Republicans are reeling and it is largely of their own making. Don’t get me wrong it’s not that the Democrats look better, it’s just the Republican look as bad as the Democrats.

I no longer identify as a Republican and quite frankly my election decisions will be of the “lesser of two evils” for the foreseeable future. Come to think of it, they usually are. Has been that way since Reagan.

I think the Republicans fell to the “absolute power, corrupts absolutely” syndrome.

What is the difference between the Rell and the Bush? Both are spending far more than they take in.

They fell in love with being in power and started to make policy decisions on “being loved” rather than doing what they know is right.

The smallest percentage of young people call themselves Republicans than in the past 30+ years. This bodes bad for the GOP. People tend to identify early and for life.

The Republican cycle in power was much shorter than the Democrat’s reign and it looks like the Democrats are getting set up for a nice long run in power. Oh, how depressing.

I feel little need or desire to defend the Republicans publicly, I clearly want an alternative.

I can not be alone, I am not that strange. I have to believe there must be millions of us.

Who:

Believe government is the source of most problems not the solution ,

The individual knows best what they need and how to get it,

The government delivers most in-efficiently at best and many times not at all,

And that government’s legit function is limited to crime, national defense, promotion of international trade and interstate trade.

I have realized my rejection of political parties is at it’s heart the fundamental core belief of conservatism.

The banding together of conservatives in to a political party is at it’s heart a conflict.

Conservatives don’t band. Duck Soup!

And this is just maybe why the Republicans just can’t seem to get it together.

The Democrats are great at banding together, they are collectivists are heart and it comes natural to them. And with it the natural tendency to have government dictate for the “good of us all”.

More on this as I ponder and wander in the wilderness.

But a quick jabe at the Republican media, Hannity and Rush you are part of the problem.

Hannity your mindless attacks and mindless defenses do conservatism no flavors. Your pit-bull style is really old.

And Rush, you said you felt “liberated” after the Republican defeats and that you won’t have to carry the water for Republicans you didn’t feel deserved it. So, you carried the water for the un-deserving? How un-deserving of a radio audience are you?

Think outside the box, dude. There’s more under heaven and on earth than are dreamed of in your (political) philosophies.
Whether you look to Limbaugh or Franken to reinforce your biases, it’s time you looked further. You in a rut, brother. For
some Semites, this is a time(Rosh Shashanah) to revisit the past year, ask for forgiveness from those you have wronged, and pledge to
try to do the right thing in the coming year. Maybe you ought to give Limbaugh a rest. L’Shana Tovah. Happy New Year

    Of course there is.
    A noble goal.

Thanks for reading and the comment.
