Does it not just frost your blue behind when a red necked state does something as progressive as this?
Missouri Accountability Portal
Welcome to the Missouri Accountability Portal (MAP).
A MAP to your tax dollars.
The MAP site is presented to the citizens of Missouri on behalf of Governor Matt Blunt as a single point of reference to review how their money is being spent and other pertinent information related to the enforcement of government programs. As you browse the MAP site you will be able to view information about state agency expenditures, the distribution of economic development tax credits and state employee pay information.
The data on the MAP site is updated each business day. New features are added as they become available. Please visit the site frequently for new information.
This is a very complex and fully data rich website that gives ordinary Missouri citizens a complete look on how the state government is spending their money. All leases, all rental, every last parking garage contract is listed here. Including all the state employees salaries.
Connecticut has studied the problem and reported in August of 2007 that yes, this site and at least 5 other states yes indeed have Government Spending Transparency websites.
Missouri’s is considered one of the best.
I’ve checked our State of Connecticut’s website and I can not find a similar page, if there is one please email the link and I will post it here. Contact info at the top of the page.
For example I’ll drill down on one agency.
Social Services -> Equipment Rental & Leases -> Office Furniture & Equipment Rentals

Down to the $100 level. Nice!
I have a feeling the citizens of Missouri could be a real pain in the neck about this.

Oh man - I want this - for our state and for my town too!
Wow!
Great post!

Ha, you are the last person they want to get this data. (that is a complement!).
It would probably give me enough fodder for a year of posts.

spacer comment to allow the post to read correctly on certain type screens. You know it is difficult to get a web page to read/look the same over the 4 major browsers. I just found out the Mac users are not happy with the way the blog is presenting. Seeing as I don’t have a MAC I’m not sure i can do much about it.

I am a lifelong resident of Missouri. I am very well educated. I am proud of the small town I came from and the kindess and caring of the people in this state. Maybe you should visit here before you insult our state and its people.

Chris,
My apologies! I visit the south often and have always been treated kindly and respectfully.
Please understand this is a Connecticut centric blog meant to poke our “blue state” officials in to more responsive government. And meant to play on the self-inflated egos and superiority complexes the blue staters have and to point out to them they are not the center of the universe and progress.
If you read the rest of post you’ll see it speaks very progressively of your state.
However I get your point. I’ll delete the “uneducated” and “backward” from the post.
Can I keep “red-necked” in?
