Chris Dodd Is MAD! Does Anyone Care?
1 March 2008The Boeing Team lost the new US Air Force Tanker contract, this is a big deal for the guys at Pratt & Whitney. The current contract has lasted over 3o years, this contract would have provided jobs for UTC workers for decades to come.
Chris Dodd issued a statement saying something to the effect, “I am outraged”, don’t quote me on that, Dodd is always outraged about something so it’s hard to keep track. Actually I think outrage is his biggest output.
Way to go Chris weighing in after the fact.
Where were you when the guys at Pratt & Whitney were working 14 hour days on the proposal? Oh, yeah, Iowa!
When the workers at Pratt needed it the most, where was their Senatorial muscle? Oh, yeah, Iowa!
If the proposal guys at Pratt had questions or if they needed clarifications or needed some help in getting a particular paragraph of the RFQ (Request for Quote) questioned or modified where was their long time Senator? Oh, yeah, Iowa! Probably putting his child on the bus for a press op. Sometimes contracts are won and lost on RFQ or Specification wording.
Old saying in the Aerospace business, “He who writes the spec wins”.
He was in Iowa discussing corn prices, I am sure the corn industry in Connecticut appreciated it. Last I checked we were big in jet engines and tech and not so much in corn.
Iowa, has a Senator, we didn’t.
I’m sure the Alabama guys had their Senators in a full court press.
So, next time the union boys come around to drum up support for Chris at the next election, remember this. Where was Chris when you needed close ground air support? Oh, yeah in Iowa!
And as if that was not pathetic enough, Dodd blamed the loss on President Bush! Complaining “Bush was continuing a policy of outsourcing American jobs”. Ok, lets read between the lines, that is Obama’s campaign slogan in Ohio. What Dodd is really doing here is sending a signal to Obama that Dodd is on board, “Look at me! I am revelant! Oh, pick me, pick me!”
Bush was probably the last person who could influence the contract award, Dodd knows this, his statement is false on its face! However a Washington Senator could help.
Remember Dodd just endorsed Obama. So, Dodd is STILL RUNNING FOR NATIONAL OFFICE AT THE EXPENSE OF CT WORKERS.
This is disgusting. How crass. Not even well done. Talk about marginizing yourself.
Now let us talk about Dodd’s tenture in Washington, considering CT is such a big defense and tech state, what committees is Dodd on? From wikipedia:
Committee on Foreign Relations
-
- Subcommittee on European Affairs
- Subcommittee on Near East and South and Central Asian Affairs
- Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Peace Corps and Narcotics Affairs (Chairman)
- Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs (Chairman)
- Subcommittee on Economic Policy (Ex-Officio)
- Subcommittee on Financial Institutions (Ex-Officio)
- Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation and Community Development (Ex-Officio)
- Subcommittee on Securities, Insurance and Investment (Ex-Officio)
- Subcommittee on Security and International Trade and Finance
- Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions
- Subcommittee on Children and Families (Chairman)
- Subcommittee on Employment and Workplace Safety
- Committee on Rules and Administration
- Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe
- Joint Committee on the Library
Not much defense or tech in that list!
But Dodd is on the Banking committe, he is chairman. The whole sub-prime mortgage mess happened on Chris Dodd’s watch. Something he could actually do something about, if only he had been in Washington keeping an eye on things. Not in Iowa.
We need to say to Dodd, put US FIRST. For a Change! Oh, I like that.
I hope we change our Senator. How is that for change?
Further Note Added 3/2/08:
“Airbus will assemble the tankers in Mobile, Alabama, and has vowed to transfer assembly of its commercial 330 aircraft there, creating jobs.
Republican Alabama Senator Richard Shelby welcomed the decision. “Not only is this the right decision for our military, but it is great news for Alabama,” he said.
The contract was expected to bring up to 1,800 jobs to the Mobile area and 5,000 to the state, he added.”
How many jobs does Dodd’s real good knowledge of corn prices add to the state?
How many jobs did Dodd’s hissy fit on FISA add to the state?

Well I guess Ct. will hire 1800 more fabulous state workers in Windsor Locks, and another 5000 statewide. Now our brilliant legislatures can run around and say they just added 6800 jobs.

Yes, I care that we have so many self-serving politicians-for-life in Congress. Amazing that the two surviving candidates with the best chances of running for President come from an organization with worse ratings than the current President carries. I’m so sick and tired of them.
