Update: Filed 3/07/08, 9:00AM, Evidently the Pratt crew thought they had won this up to 1/2 hour prior to the announcement.
File this one under, “It’s Too Late To Do Anything” folder. Humming the song, “It’s Too Late Baby, Now, It’s Too Late”, might help.
CT Congress peoples are promising to “look into” the Air Force’s decision to award the contract to Northrop / Grumman / EADs rather than Boeing/Pratt Whitney.
Why bother? Go waste time on something else.
If it mattered to you, you would have been involved already. And you would have been on committees that have oversight.
I’ve been on Rosa DeLaruo’s website as far as her website is concerned, Rosa is on NO COMMITTEEs, or none worth telling her employers about.
John Larson used to be on Armed Services, but no more, but he cares, deeply. Pratt’s in his district last I checked.
Chris Murphy .. nothing, Military wise.
Dan Courtney is on Armed Services and appears to looking out for the Sub Base.
Other then Dan C, we are pretty sparsely represented on committees, we used to be called the “Provision State”, since the Revolutionary War we’ve had that nickname.
Now we are just known as the “Left Nut State”.
These things are won or lost very early on in the process, who can effect the specification or write the mission statement very oft, wins. The Air Force is very good at this, I doubt Congress will be able to find a smoking gun, but they’ll look good grilling the Air Force and that is what really counts isn’t it?
But this I know is true, it won’t be CT Congress people with the defense plants IN THEIR DISTRICTS that will be doing the grilling. They have to outsource that (I borrowed that phrase from Chris Dodd, another well connected Washington type.)
A little supply side economic theory here, we can not pay our taxes if we don’t get work in to the state, you guys are really good at spending money you need to get a lot better at bringing money in, it is done via jobs and economic development.
This not a matter of pork, this contract is needed by the Air Force to replace 30+ year air frames. The money was going to be spent with or with out us.
It’s a matter of advocacy and it would be nice if our guys advocated on stuff that matters.
