Hardly a new headline, but true. From the Hartford Courant
…a legislative proposal to charge an extra 6 percent sales tax on delivery charges for packages sent to homes and businesses.
Kevin Maloney, president of the state’s messenger association, said his industry makes only a 4 percent net profit each year, and so it would definitely pass along the 6 percent sales tax to consumers.
All taxes get passed on to the consumer. This is just another tax on individuals.
Jay from Middletown commented:
I’m a UPS driver, volume is lighter as we speak and they want to add a tax to our deliveries. The company will raise their prices to accomodate which will lessen volume more. Way to think. I guess gas and cigarette taxes are not filling the honey jars enough !
Hard to comment further on this, it defies belief and adjectives.
In my company (a manufacturing company) all our materials are delivered by messenger service, DHL, FedEx and UPS. This will raise the cost of doing business in our state and make our products more expensive and put us at a disadvantage to other suppliers.
It will increase pressure to move out of the state. Especially since none of our competitors have to pay this tax.
