The Gulf Cartel is behind a string of high profile attacks on police officers in Mexico

Gunmen kill 12 people in Mexico bar

Police say gunmen in and around a crowded bar in central Mexico have killed 12 people.

The mayor of Monterrey said the gunmen were members of the violent Gulf Cartel.

The suspected gunmen used 12 cars to speed through traffic in a convoy of four vans.

The head of the cartel, Arturo Lazcano, told police that one of his henchmen had been killed while chasing members of the rival Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

The Gulf Cartel has been behind several high profile attacks on police officers in recent years.

Officials said the victims were members of a bar in Monterrey’s La Rarita district.
